Job Purpose:
This is a frontline originator/trader role based in Istanbul, reporting to the Country Lead of Shell Energy Turkey (SEAS).
Main purpose of this role is to actively develop, manage, optimise and substantially grow the power business in Turkey in line with overall business objectives and in accordance with Shell Energy Trading – Europe & Africa (SE&EA) strategy and Group policy. SE&EA markets and trades natural gas and power across Europe and Africa and manages the environmental products business, globally. SE-EA's counterparts include major resource holders of gas, upstream producers, investment banks, trading houses, utilities and aggregators, power generators and large industrial and commercial gas and power users.
In the early days of the role, you are expected to lead the efforts to grow the business while liaising externally with deal owners and senior management of counterparties and internally with members of SE&EA’s trading community including SE&EA senior management to drive the deal agenda with counterparties forward. Ultimately you are expected to ensure full integration of commercial and operational aspect of Turkish power business within the SE&EA’s power book.
You will be working in a rapidly evolving business area, often in challenging regulatory and legal environments. You will be a part of a team of capable and motivated individuals and, as such, will benefit from the ability to work and form relationships with a diverse set of individuals. The position calls for a self-motivated, entrepreneurial and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure.
Principal Accountabilities:
Setting up Relationships/Contracts/Opportunities
• Developing power business in Turkey to make it a significant contributor to the overall P&L .
• Develop and maintain direct relationships with counterparties and customers across Turkey.
• Represent Shell Energy Turkey at engagements with external stakeholders (industry associations, regulator, etc) to work with and influence them.
• Working closely with the deal team community both local and global (Trading, Deal Structuring, Finance, Legal, Contracts, Operations) as well as from time to time with their team leads and SE&EA LT members.
• Be on top of commercial, regulatory and legislative developments in the power industry in Turkey as well as the neighboring countries.
• Maintaining awareness of the SE&EA’s wider portfolio and implementing best practices in Turkey by mainly proposing innovative non- standard and cross commodity solutions to customers.
Deal Origination / Trading Strategies
• Lead the identification, preparation, negotiation, internal mandating, execution, deal management, relationship management and post-deal value optimisation of opportunities.
• Work with local and global teams in order to build and maintaining of a deal funnel that enables continuous deal delivery in role year-on-year; as well as the enhancing of SEAS’ customer serving and deal delivery capabilities.
• The role entails the provision of energy solutions to large industrial and commercial customers. Main solution is the supply of power (and gas), but includes more innovative and complex solutions.
• Work with the Power desk in London, focusing on communication of daily positions, views, and ideas and execute trades within mandated authorities provided by the Power desk in London. Propose and manage risk instruments/techniques to hedge the risks of trading positions.
• Originate cross border power deals linking Turkey to neighbor countries (in line with the SE&EA aspirations).
• Identifying cross-divisional opportunities, in collaboration with in particular SE&EA and Renewable Energy Solutions (Solar; wind; EV etc.)
Exposure Management/Reporting/Accountability
• Check and update exposures and ensure they are correctly reflected in the internal risk reports and report to London Trader change-on-day differences.
• Monitor very closely credit performance and consumption trends of the customers, and proactively intervene when there are issues.
• Manage all aspects (including commercial, financial, operational, regulatory, etc) of SEAS’ daily power business internally and externally to ensure flawless and efficient operations, full compliance with all Shell standards and policies and commitment to HSSE Goal Zero target
Fundamentals Analysis
• Hands on modelling of Turkey power fundamentals. Analyse fundamental, technical and sentiment attributes of the market to develop and implement profitable trading strategies.
• Co-ordinate across Deal Structuring (London), MSA (London), Commercial Analysts (in London and Istanbul) development of market analysis and intelligence to inform power trading strategies.
